St. Stephen’s Day (Day of Saint Stephen) is Hungary’s main national and state holiday, celebrated annually on August 20.
The holiday is dedicated to the first King of Hungary, Stephen I, who united the Hungarian tribes, adopted Christianity, and founded the Hungarian state over 1,000 years ago.
